- 3 December 2002: This update is a bit premature, but had
to happen because CDNow has invoked changes in their "web partners" program forcing a
transition to Amazon. All in all this is a good thing since CDNow is now partnered
through Amazon. Amazon also offers a bigger range of products beyond just books and music.
This means more opportunity for you to support the site with your purchases, which is
greatly appreciated. On the downside it is not as easy to link to specific products
and even tougher to link to a page for a given artist. Hence the Alarm page will
randomly offer you 60s legends Strawberry Alarm Clock in addition to the fine
fellows from Wales. Unfortunately I don't have as many new artist pages ready to go
up, so of the 20 or so artist pages I am working only four are absolutely ready
for the net at this point. Hopefully I'll be able to add the others next week and
"officially" declare the site updated. The four that have been added at this
point are:
English Beat,
Romeo Blue,
General Public and
Two Men A Drum Machine and a Trumpet.
I really wanted to add more, but the CDNow situation forced my hand. The other artist
pages are so close to being done I'll probably just upload them within a week or two. Thanks
for your patience!
The overhaul of the look of
the site continues. Take a sneak peak at the New Homepage
under construction.
- 22 October 2002: Safely back on US soil, your humble
webmeister has meticulously spent the last two months checking every link on the site,
fixing and deleting the bad ones, coming up with hundreds of new ones and adding artist
pages to the growing I.R.S. Corner...
The I.R.S. Corner Memorial Page page has
been updated, which is a sad duty for me. I
personally knew or met a few of these talented individuals. Soon I will add your tributes
to these people as well as my own (thanks to those who've submitted dedications and
memories)...
Ten new artists have been added this month (okay, seven were
in the last update, but I never sent out an e-mail announcement on
that update). They are:
Howard Devoto,
Karel Fialka,
Kim Fowley,
H Factor,
Lords Of The New Church,
Magazine,
Payola$,
Renaissance,
Sham 69 and
Shampoo. I really wanted to add more, but at this point
it was far more importnat to post something new. The other ten artist pages
are so close to being done I'll probably just upload them within a month. Thanks for your
patience!
Every page on the site has been significantly
updated. All links have been checked, corrected and updated. Hundreds of new links
have been found and added. As usual, if you find a great link for an I.R.S. act that
I don't have on an artist's page, let me know so I can check it out and add it.
(And a big thanks to all the artists who have sent me the URL's for their latest musical
endeavours).
Next update should finally deliver Part 3 of the I.R.S.
Story and a dozen more new artist pages... I've also started overhauling the look of
the site. Take a sneak peak at the New Homepage under construction.
Previous updates can be read at the
What's New Archive.
- 27 April/12 June 2002: This is a grand experiment in maintaining an
informational fan website from afar. Instead of posting updates and doing research from
the comfort of my home office (as usual), the majority of this update has been done
from "The Field," forward deployed from places like Korea, Japan and the Persian Gulf as
your humble webmeister participates in the war on terrorism.
The links to CD Now continue to deliver small dividends, though still
not to the point where they're paying for the site's hosting, but we ARE getting close!
This means it's worth my efforts to add them and well worth the convenience to you.
Keep ordering your favorite IRS music and remember, your purchases support the IRS
Records Corner, a penny at a time!
Seven new artists have been added this month. They are:
Karel Fialka,
H Factor,
Lords Of The New Church,
Payola$,
Renaissance,
Sham 69 and
Shampoo.
.
The pages for
Jan Akkerman,
Alley Cats,
Angel & the Reruns,
American Girls,
The Bangles,
The Bolshoi,
The Damned,
Dead Kennedys,
Go-Go's,
Brian James,
M.I.A. and
Yip Yip Coyote
have been updated. Of course the Compilations page has
also had an update as usual, correcting several typos and just plain "missed" cut and
paste errors from previous updates.
In the meantime I'm finding many of the sites linked to early
in the IRS Records Corner's life are no longer in existence. Also, many of the
earliest artist pages are sort of, well.. "lacking" in quality. So between now and the
next update I'll be checking ALL the links, and "beautifying" and updating each artist's
page. If you find any bad links let me know. Conversely, if you find any great links for
IRS acts that I don't have on a band's page, let me know so I can check it out
and add it if appropriate. (And a big thanks to all the artists who have sent me the
URL's for their latest musical endeavours).
The
IRS Corner Memorial Page continues to grow, unfortunately,
as I research more and more IRS artists.
- 5 March 2002: Once again virtually every artist page has had
an update in either content, layout or both. The links to CD Now wherever an artist or
recording is in print are starting to deliver small dividends, making it worth the hassle
to me and the convenience for you. Keep ordering your favorite IRS music and remember,
your purchases support the IRS RECORDS Corner, a penny at a time.
Only six new artists have been added this month. They are:
Human Hands,
Human Switchboard,
MIA,
Tongue Avulsion,
Vengeance and
Whipping Boy.
Sadly, I've come up with a substantial number of additions to the
IRS Corner Memorial Page. Remember, you can have your own tribute to
these musical masters added to the memorial. Just send them to me using the
E-Mail Us link on the homepage...
- 8 February 2002: With this update I've once again made changes to virtually every artist page in
either content, layout or both. Generous contributions from Hillary Carlip of
Angel & the Reruns and Eric Dansby of Maniax have resulted in extensive
updates to those pages. I've also added links to CD Now wherever an artist or recording is in print so
you can order the music you're interested in. Remember, your purchases support the IRS RECORDS Corner,
a penny at a time.
Fourteen new artists have been added this month. They are:
Jan Akkerman,
The Bolshoi,
Camper Van Beethoven,
Circle Jerks,
Cosmetics,
Focus,
Flipper,
Peter Ivers,
David Lynch,
MDC,
Richard Mazda,
Monks Of Doom,
Alan R Splet, and
Fats Waller.
I've split the Soundtrack/Compilation page
into two separate pages due to a deluge of new additions that
made having a single page a nearly unmanageable task. In fact, I may split the compilation page into three parts: IRS, Tribal
and HEMIsphere. Let me know what you think. Also, the huge addition of artists from these "affiliated" labels is making
the "Artist Roster" grow as well. To simplify your searchability of the roster I may end up adding "mini-logos" after each artist's
name. Again, let me know what you think of this idea.
Some of you may have noticed a change in the wallpaper over the holiday season. As I learn more
about javascript and php you'll see more little surprises like that. Just pop in during
a holiday for a surprise.
- 10 Sept 2001: As usual, Mr Bill wishes to apologize for delays. He also wishes
to thank those of you who keep writing asking about the next update or when the Lords Of
The New Church Page is coming. Mr Bill's current job has been taking him on some extended
travel. Add to that all his part time jobs (which pay) and, unfortunately, when time
requires something to be pushed back, well, sadly the IRS Corner (which doesn't pay) gets
the delay. But never fear, Mr Bill is currently working on some angles... Stay tuned for
details...
Version 2.5 now includes the completed Part Two
of The IRS Story. New artists added include:
Angel & the Reruns,
Angst,
Bent Nails,
Church Police,
Crown Of Thorns,
Deadly Reign,
Domino Theory,
Free Beer,
Juvenile Justice,
Maniax,
Rick Moranis,
No Alternative,
Scapegoats,
Section 8,
UXB,
Urban Assault,
Vicious Circle
and
The Wrecks.
Mr. Bill had planned to have The English Beat (and all the bands it generated) by this update, but certain world
events took a chunk of time, so Mr. Bill will save them and about 15 other artists whose pages are between 50 and 90% ready, as the lead addition in the next update (vers. 3.0)...
Every artist's page has had an update in format if
not content since the last update (April 2001). There have been substantial additions
to the Soundtrack & Compilation Discography.
- 14 April 2001: Mr Bill wishes to apologize for the delays in updating the site. Between getting situated in a new job and adapting to being home with the family instead of being on the road 5 days a week, spare time has been at a premium. Add to that readapting to Navy life and well, things have been very complicated! But the new changes should make the wait well worth the delay... Version 2.3 now includes Part two of The IRS Story (which will be fine tuned in the coming months). New artists added include:
The Aquanettas,
Bad Posture,
Black Sabbath,
Belinda Carlisle,
Dead Kennedys,
Demented Youth,
Go-Go's,
Impatient Youth,
Karnage,
Kindred Spirit,
Lennonburger,
NBJ,
Pariah,
Rebel Truth,
SmashBox,
Textones,
Jane Wiedlin. The pages for Henry Badowski, Balancing Act, Fashion and Skafish have been updated. Again, more of the
Soundtrack & Compilation Discography have been added. Because of complaints and incompatibilities with the newest version of Netscape, the IRS Theme has been deleted from the home page. But never fear! Mr. Bill will soon be adding a downloadable video clip for your enjoyment!
- 9 Feb 2000: Version 2.1 now includes Part one of The IRS Story
and the first version of the Faulty Products discography. Sorry no
new bands in this release. Yet again, more of the Soundtrack &
Compilation Discography have been added. 18 Feb 2000 should be the next big update...
- 27 Jan 2000: Welcome to version 2.0 of "Mr. Bill's IRS Corner!" New this release:
John Cale,
Capitol Punishment,
Code Of Honor,
Crucifix,
Fang,
5th Column,
Frigidettes,
Ghost Dance,
Intensified Chaos,
Killjoy,
Los Olvidados,
M.A.D.,
Naked Lady Wrestlers,
Wazmo Nariz,
Ribsy,
7Seconds,
Social Unrest,
Square Cools,
Unaware
Yip Yip Coyote. Updates to The Cramps,
Humans, Skafish, And the IRS STORY (Part One) which
was promised for this release will be ready by next week as vers 2.1. (along with a portion of the Faulty
Products discography). Mr Bill apologizes for the delay. Again, more of the
Soundtrack & Compilation Discography have been added. And Mr Bill would
love to hear if the theme song is still annoyingly long to load.
- 7 Jan 2000: Well we made it through Y2K! Artists added in release 1.5 are:
The Balancing Act, Bangles, Chelsea,
Humans, Darlene Love and The Stranglers.
And the IRS STORY (Part One) will be ready in our next update for your enjoyment... Watch for release 2.0,
coming 27 Jan 2000!
Also, because we received reports that the IRS Theme was taking up to 20 minutes to download (who the heck
is still using 14.4 modems?!?!?) we've recompressed it to less than 20% of its original size. Also, it can
now be heard by Netscape users as well. As for MACs? We're sure some MAC user will tell us if anything's
amiss! Mr Bill would like to thank Greg Benson for his wonderful reviews for the Balancing Act page!
- 22 Dec 1999: Merry Christmas! Mr Bill wanted to have more artists than this ready, but
when you're juggling four jobs plus life on the road, family stuff and then toss in a little "holiday
madness", well... He just couldn't seem to get it all done! Artists added in release 1.2 are:
American Girls, Animals,
The Cramps, The Damned,
Root Boy Slim & the Sex Change Band,
Much more of the Soundtrack & Compilation Discography is further along.
A few other minor corrections have been made several of the other artist pages. Next update is
expected about 7 Jan 2000, if we make it through Y2K (and Mr Bill is pretty confident we will)...
- 7 Dec 1999: Website is launched in conjunction with
Rudy's A&M Corner. Initial artists profiled are: The Alarm,
Anti-Nowhere League, Alleycats,
Alternative TV, Henry Badowski,
Animal Logic,
Berlin , Buzzcocks,
The Fall, Fashion, Steve Diggle,
Barry Diamond, Brian James,
Skafish and Adrian Zmed (!?). Also, portions of
the Soundtrack & Compilation Discography are done. The site is expected to
grow by 5 to 15 artists a month, until every IRS Record is covered in these cyber halls of fantabulous
musicology! And for those of you wondering, yes, we are headed in a more or less alphabetical direction, but
we endeavor to get a few jumps ahead. Why else would we include Adrian Zmed (last
alphabetically) to round out our launch month?
